Edward Eveleth Powars

Edward Eveleth Powars was a printer in Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts, in the late 18th century. He published the ''Independent Chronicle'' (1776-ca.1779),〔Library of Congress. (Independent chronicle ), w., Sept. 19-Oct. 31, 1776.〕〔Library of Congress. ( The Independent chronicle. And the universal advertiser ), w., s.w., Nov. 7, 1776-Dec. 29, 1800+〕 the ''Boston Evening-Post'' (1781–1784),〔Library of Congress. (The Boston evening-post: and the general advertiser ), w., Oct. 20, 1781-Jan. 10, 1784.〕 the ''American Herald'' (1784–1790), and ''The Argus''. He worked with Nathaniel Willis as "Powars & Willis."〔Boston news letter, and city record, Sept. 23, 1826.〕
In 1781 he kept his "printing-office" in Boston, at "the lower end of State-Street, over Mr. Simon Eliot's snuff-store."〔Boston Evening Post, Dec. 8, 1781.〕 He moved to Worcester in 1788, "having been humiliatingly neglected ... for printing a free paper."〔New Hampshire Spy, Sept. 16, 1788〕 By 1791 he'd returned to Boston; around 1796 he lived on Temple Street.〔Herald of Freedom, July 1, 1791〕〔Boston Directory. 1796〕
Around 1803 he worked "as a compositor in the office of Samuel Etheridge, in Charlestown."〔Joseph Tinker Buckingham. "At a later period, he was a traveling bookseller, and died on one of his expeditions in the Western States."〔
